Care Instructions for Australian Conditions
Light
Ficus Snowstorm absolutely craves bright indirect light to maintain that spectacular variegation! Position it near an east-facing window for gorgeous morning sun, or a few feet back from south or west-facing windows where it gets plenty of brightness without harsh rays. This is super important - insufficient light will cause the stunning variegation to fade, and too much direct sun can scorch those beautiful speckled leaves. The right bright spot will keep that variegation crisp and vibrant!
Watering
Here's where your Snowstorm appreciates consistent attention! It's important to only water when it suits the environment your plant is living in - everyone's home is different! Generally, this beauty loves moist soil and appreciates more frequent watering than many other ficus varieties. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry to the touch, ensuring the soil stays consistently moist but never waterlogged. During our warm Australian summers, you'll be watering more regularly, while cooler months require slightly less. Always ensure excellent drainage - soggy roots are this plant's enemy! Remember that chunky, well-draining medium will dry faster than dense potting mix, so adjust accordingly!
Temperature
Ficus Snowstorm thrives in warm, stable conditions between 18-27°C - absolutely perfect for most Australian homes! Keep it away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and sudden temperature fluctuations. This tropical beauty really appreciates that steady warmth year-round and won't tolerate temperatures below 15°C, so keep it cosy!
Humidity
This is where your Snowstorm really shows its tropical roots! It absolutely loves moderate to high humidity and will reward you with healthier, more vibrant foliage when kept happy. Group your Ficus Snowstorm with other tropical plants to create natural humidity pockets that benefit everyone in your collection! During our drier months, especially when heaters are running, a humidifier nearby can work absolute wonders for maintaining those gorgeous leaves. This extra humidity helps prevent leaf drop and keeps your plant thriving!
Potting Medium
Plant your Ficus Snowstorm in an airy, well-draining mix that retains some moisture while allowing excellent airflow to the roots! For spectacular results, we absolutely recommend our signature Ultimate Aroid Mix combining pine bark, perlite, coco coir, coco chips, vermiculite, and charcoal. This chunky blend provides the perfect balance your Snowstorm needs - it stays moist enough without becoming waterlogged while giving those roots the oxygen they crave!
Fertilising
Feed your Spotted Fig regularly to support that gorgeous variegated growth! We strongly recommend Growth Technology Foliage Focus at 3-5ml per litre of water at every watering during the growing season for optimum results. This complete, balanced formula delivers all 12 essential minerals your ficus needs for spectacular foliage development!
Take your plant's health to the next level by adding Growth Technology Rootzone at 1ml per litre every 2-4 weeks in conjunction with your regular fertiliser. Rootzone's powerful organic biostimulants promote incredible root development, helping prevent root rot and supporting vigorous top growth. For extra protection, add Growth Technology Silica at 2-3ml per litre weekly to fortify cell walls and boost resistance against stress - this is especially beneficial for maintaining those delicate variegated leaves!
Seasonal Care
During our warm Australian spring and summer (September through February), your Ficus Snowstorm will be actively growing and producing those stunning new leaves! Maintain consistent moisture and regular feeding during this time. As we move into cooler autumn and winter months (March through August), growth naturally slows - you can ease back slightly on watering frequency while continuing to provide bright light and occasional feeding to keep your plant healthy year-round!

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Ficus Snowstorm considered more challenging than other ficus?
Great question! Ficus Snowstorm appreciates more consistent attention than some other ficus varieties - it loves regular watering to keep soil moist, appreciates higher humidity, and can be prone to rust fungus or leaf drop if stressed by harsh light or inconsistent conditions. That said, this absolutely doesn't make it impossible! With the right bright spot, consistent moisture, and grouping with other plants for humidity, it becomes quite manageable and incredibly rewarding. The spectacular variegation is absolutely worth the extra care!
How do I maintain that stunning variegation?
The secret to keeping those gorgeous speckled leaves vibrant is providing plenty of bright indirect light! Position your Snowstorm where it receives abundant brightness without harsh direct sun. Feed regularly with Growth Technology Foliage Focus to support healthy leaf development, and maintain consistent moisture levels. When your plant is happy and well-lit, those stunning cream and white patterns will stay crisp and bold. New growth will emerge with even more spectacular patterns!
Can I propagate my Ficus Snowstorm?
Absolutely! Propagate through stem cuttings or air layering during the growing season. Take 10-15cm semi-hardwood cuttings, dip in Clonex Purple Rooting Hormone, and place in our chunky aroid mix or water. Use Clonex Clone Solution (CCS) at 5ml per litre to dramatically speed root development! Provide warmth, humidity, and bright indirect light. Roots typically form within 4-8 weeks, and you'll have a whole new Snowstorm to add to your collection or share with lucky friends!
Is Ficus Snowstorm safe for pets?
Ficus Snowstorm contains milky latex sap and is toxic if ingested by pets or children. The sap can also irritate skin, so wear gloves when pruning or handling cut stems. With proper placement away from curious cats and dogs, you can absolutely enjoy this stunning plant safely in your home! Its tree-like form naturally keeps most foliage elevated, and the spectacular beauty it brings to your space makes thoughtful positioning worthwhile!
Every plant we offer is carefully selected from our premium nursery stock and personally inspected for quality and health before dispatch, ensuring you receive a beautiful specimen ready to thrive in your Australian collection!
Please Note: As living plants, each specimen is unique and may vary in size, leaf count, and exact appearance from the images shown. The photos are representative examples of the quality and characteristics you can expect, but natural variations in shape, colour, and growth patterns make every plant one-of-a-kind. This individuality is part of what makes growing plants so special!

Shipping & Greenhouse Collection
Let's Talk About How Your Plants Get to You!
Alright, so here's the deal with shipping - we try our best to send all our plants potted and ready to go, but sometimes due to larger orders or when we're moving through some big changes, we'll send some plants semi-bare rooted. If you haven't come across this before, it basically means we carefully remove a bunch of the soil before packing them up. I know that might sound a bit scary if you've never ordered plants online before, but trust me, this is actually a really smart way to do it! The main reason we do this is because it creates so much more room in the box, which means we can fit way more plants in one shipment for you. More plants in one box = more green goodness arriving at your door at once! The plants honestly handle the journey better without all that heavy, wet soil sloshing around too. Just make sure you've got some fresh potting mix ready to go when your green babies arrive, because they'll want to get tucked into their new home pretty quickly!
Now, let's chat about what actually fits in our boxes. We can safely fit about 4-6 plants in one box, or if you're stocking up on supplies, one box can hold 3 bags of medium plus 1L of Growth Technology. We really don't recommend adding heavy items with your plants though - it just puts extra stress on your precious plants during transit and limits how many we can fit. If your order ends up being heavier than our standard box can handle, we'll reach out to you about additional postage fees. We're always transparent about costs, no sneaky surprises!
When Does Everything Ship Out?
Here's how our timeline works - we process and ship orders the week after you place them. So if you order on a Tuesday, your plants will get packed and sent out sometime the following week. We ship Monday through Friday (because let's be real, we all need weekends to recharge!), and we're aiming to get your order out within 4-6 business days of processing. Sometimes things take a tiny bit longer because we're a small but mighty team, and we take absolute care in making sure every single plant is packed perfectly. Like, we're talking individual attention for each plant here. We don't rush this stuff!
Once your order ships, you'll get an email with your tracking number. If you haven't received that tracking email, it just means we're still working on your order - it hasn't left us yet. Please be patient with us! We promise we're working as fast as we can while still making sure everything is done right. We pack orders in chronological order to keep things fair for everyone, so no one's getting special treatment or jumping the queue. First come, first served, that's how we roll!
The Journey to Your Doorstep
All our orders ship with Australia Post, and here's something cool - they operate 24/7! That means even if your order gets sent out on a Friday afternoon, it's still making its way to you over the weekend. The postal system doesn't sleep, and honestly, that's pretty amazing for getting plants to you quickly. You can generally expect your plants to arrive within 2-7 days after we ship them, depending on where you are in Australia. Metro areas tend to be quicker, regional spots might take the full week, but either way, your tracking number will keep you in the loop the whole time.
And here's the thing that always blows people's minds - our plants are absolute troopers. We've tested this extensively, and they can genuinely survive in their boxes for up to three weeks if needed. Obviously we don't want them sitting around that long, but life happens, mail gets delayed sometimes, and we want you to know that your plants are prepped and ready to handle whatever the postal system throws at them. While we do our best to avoid delays, occasional unforeseen circumstances may slightly impact delivery times, but rest assured, your plants are packed with extra care and are tougher than you think!
Quarantine States (WA, NT, TAS)
We currently only ship directly to non-quarantine states. Unfortunately, biosecurity restrictions make it pretty complicated to send plants to Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Tasmania. But don't worry, we've got a solution for you! If you're from a quarantine restricted state and would like to purchase plants from us, we recommend using Paradise Distributors' concierge service. They're absolute legends and can handle all the biosecurity paperwork and requirements for you. Make sure to contact them prior to purchasing so they can give you all the details and help you out: info@rareplants.net.au
Come Visit the Greenhouse! (Rockdale)
If you're local or just love the idea of picking up your order in person, we've got you covered! Greenhouse collection from our Rockdale location is available the same week you make your purchase. Our opening hours are always changing, so make sure to check booking availability on our 'Visit the Greenhouse' page before purchasing. After you've paid for your order, just head over and book a time slot that works for you. You'll get to pick up your plants AND have a wander through the greenhouse while you're here, which honestly is such a vibe. Just please wear a mask if you're feeling unwell - it's a small space and we want to keep everyone safe and healthy!
